📦 Part 1: The Great Giveaway Pickup 🏃♀️
The crisp, late-October air at Bowie State University buzzed with anticipation—not just the usual campus energy, but a palpable excitement for the upcoming coronation. I was technically on the clock for my Intramurals and Recreation, 1914 Edition internship, but today felt more like a covert holiday mission. My assignment: pick up about 15 package giveaways destined for various campus organizations and departments within Athletics. This was our way of giving back—a thank-you from the department, and for me, a little extra spoiling session.
Why the extra spoiling? Well, it was all tied up with my track and field friend and crush. The coronation was coming up, and I knew the women, who already dress impeccably, were going to look absolutely fine. Being nonbinary and heading toward that event later made me want to spread some good cheer and energy, so I decided to go all out with the giveaway deliveries.
I walked into the administrative wing of the Athletics Department, the boxes neatly stacked near the entrance. They were heavier than I expected, filled with BSU swag, gift certificates, and maybe a few extra goodies I’d tucked in myself. A quick chat with the coordinator, a check of the inventory list, and the packages were officially in my care.
“Got ’em!” I muttered to myself, adjusting the stack. Now for the logistics. The clock was ticking, not just on my internship hours, but on getting ready for the night's main event. This internship is about my future to fricking graduating, I reminded myself, keeping the hustle professional.
While juggling the boxes and an internal list of drop-off spots, I pulled out my phone. Step one: securing my mom's ride. She was making the drive, and I needed to make sure she arrived stress-free. With a couple of taps, the ride was confirmed: A Gray Toyota Camry Uber was on its way to bring my mother to campus.
Packages secured. Mom's ride handled. Now for the delivery route.
The Bowie State Homecoming vibes are officially locked in! Y'all, I can't even tell you how much the Department of Athletics came through for me. That trip from the Athletics building to the CMRC Student Center in the #59 Silver Golf Cart felt like a victory lap. I'm starting to think I've been officially adopted by the Bulldogs, no cap!
And for real, riding with a Sigma in that cart? That was the funniest thing I've done in a minute. The energy on campus is just different right now—you can feel the collective Black and gold spirit buzzing.
📦 Showcase Prep & Godmom's Good Intentions
Right after my scenic cart tour, the real work started. My godmother shows up with the frames for my senior showcase, and she's trying to get the Howard University alumni from 1867 to 2017 to pick up the boxes. Bless her heart! I was like, "I got this, godmom, you're tripping."
I sprinted to the lounge area in CMRC and rented out a yellow poly cart faster than you can say "Bulldog Pride." Hauled that thing straight to the machine room to set up for my big night. The showcase is all about my animation thought process, focusing on Tarot cards and the tough times in Haiti due to Hurricane Melissa. Yeah, I'm taking this animation thing seriously now.
🎶 Ready for the Concert & Looking for Red
With the major tasks checked off, it was finally time to hang with the Gangnem. It's been too long since I've properly linked up with my friends, and I'm definitely looking forward to the Mariah the Scientist concert tonight. It's the perfect way to cap off the homecoming hype.
And about this concert... I don't know what it is, but I think I have a serious infatuation with the Deltas, or maybe I'm just delusional from all the excitement! I guess I'll have to see how the night goes. A red on a mission, trying to figure out if she's catching feelings for the crimson and cream. Stay tuned!

A New Home for Haitian Art in Bowie by: Mardline Prevot Via Mazopal Design ( Haitian Community: The Vintage View) The words sting, even when they're not directed at me. In my courses, when Haiti comes up, it's a predictable script: poverty, political instability, a place to avoid. A casual dismissal of a country so rich in history and resilience. It's a narrative that paints my home as a lost cause, a cautionary tale. And for a long time, I just listened, the words sinking in. But then I realized something. They're not completely wrong. Haiti has faced incredible challenges. But that's not the whole story, and it's certainly not the only story. What's missing from their textbooks is the vibrant, powerful history that makes Haiti what it is today. They don't talk about the incredible strength and ingenuity of a country that, after 1804, became the first free Black republic. They don't mention the Black liberation that sparked hope across the diaspora...
The Week of Royal Blue and Gold: Cap, Confessions, and Coronation by: Mardline Prevot Via Grant Funding to the Key to the Krok. Monday, October 27, 2025 started with a tangible step toward the future: I officially purchased my cap and gown. The reality of graduation is setting in. Later that evening, the Bowie State Talent Show kicked off, starting with a lively Halloween-themed opener hosted by the BMI Organization (Image 1). The air was electric, but before the main event, I took a leap of faith. It was a moment of intense nervous confidence—a boldness I attribute to the color of my flag—that prompted me to confess my feelings to my crush. A significant personal moment before the campus spotlight truly hit. The talent show began with a diverse lineup. We saw "Spin thin" and heard a peer sing a song that made the 'born in the 2000s' audience cheer. The first runners, my "dogs" Big Nick and Big Lechi, put on a great performance. The second runner, Thomas, ...
Amplifying Voices: Bowie State University and the Human Rights Campaign Lead the Way for LGBTQIA+ Inclusion by: Mardline Prevot Gizmo in 2025 For the past three years, a powerful movement for LGBTQIA+ inclusion has been building on the campus of Bowie State University (BSU), the oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Maryland. This effort, in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), is more than just a collaboration; it's a testament to BSU's legacy of leadership, culminating in the establishment of the first LGBTQIA+ resource center at an HBCU. The Power of Dreaming Out Loud The movement is deeply personal for many, including the student leaders driving this change. The journey often begins with a personal awakening—a realization of difference that blossoms into freedom. This is the essence of #DreamOutLoud. "It started with being a 13-year-old Haitian kid, realizing I was different," shares one of the event organizers. "It led to c...
