New York City. The "Big Apple." A place of dreams, memories, and for me, a reunion with family and a step into the future of my career. As a Haitian-American, my connection to this city is deeply rooted. My guardian, a strong and resilient woman who came from PĂ©tionville, Haiti, made sure I knew my family there. I remember countless visits as a child and into my early 20s, seeing my aunts and cousins, and even celebrating my little cousin's communion—a memory that now feels like a warm hug from the past.

Recently, I found myself back in the heart of it all, but for a different reason. A good friend, who believed in me even after I faced a few rejection letters, referred me to the Out 4 Undergrad 2024 Digital Conference. It was a golden opportunity, a chance to learn more about my chosen career path: design. And what an experience it was!

Stepping into the offices of Horizon Media and JP Morgan Chase & Co. was exhilarating. It wasn't just a conference; it was a window into the professional world. I was there to learn about the structure of the digital marketing industry, a field that felt both new and exciting. The atmosphere was electric, filled with bright minds and passionate individuals. I soaked up every bit of information, gaining invaluable insights into ad design agencies and the corporate world.

This conference was more than just a learning experience about digital marketing. It was also a personal journey. As I navigated the city, I couldn't help but think about the different regions of Haitians in the United States. From my own family in New York to the vibrant communities in South Florida, Boston, and elsewhere, each region has its own unique story and a distinct flavor of Haitian culture. It's a testament to the resilience and strength of a people who have built new lives while holding onto their heritage.

The Out 4 Undergrad 2024 Digital Conference was a turning point for me. It gave me clarity on my career, a new sense of direction, and a chance to reflect on my own identity. It reminded me that my journey is shaped not only by my aspirations but also by my roots—the rich, vibrant, and complex tapestry of my Haitian heritage woven into the fabric of the American experience. I left the conference feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to take on the world, one design at a time.
