The Kappa Transition: DJ Spin's BSU Got Talent Set By: Mardline Prevot Via Bowie State Cab 📦 Part 1: The Great Giveaway Pickup 🏃‍♀️ The crisp, late-October air at Bowie State University buzzed with anticipation—not just the usual campus energy, but a palpable excitement for the upcoming coronation. I was technically on the clock for my Intramurals and Recreation, 1914 Edition internship, but today felt more like a covert holiday mission. My assignment: pick up about 15 package giveaways destined for various campus organizations and departments within Athletics. This was our way of giving back—a thank-you from the department, and for me, a little extra spoiling session. Why the extra spoiling? Well, it was all tied up with my track and field friend and crush. The coronation was coming up, and I knew the women, who already dress impeccably, were going to look absolutely fine . Being nonbinary and heading toward that event later made me want to spread some good cheer and energy, so ...

The Niro EV Vibe Check by: Mardline Prevot Shout out to the Black women drivers setting the tone—the speakers are blasting Rihanna’s “Needed Me,” so we’re instantly on that Caribbean energy. And yeah, the car straight-up smells like cocoa butter in here. It’s a whole mood. My one immediate critique is that main display screen: it’s totally giving Microsoft wallpaper from 2007. It just is. We pulled up at 3:13 on the dot. I watched the driver hit the gas with a powerful push, almost like a scene with Swattie from Claws (though, full disclosure, I’ve never actually watched the show). Then, the music shifted. "Gloria" came on, triggering the deep, existential thoughts: How do men leave the mothers of their children? That was quickly followed by “Don’t Deserve” and a track by Sia. The internal mood is definitely shifting! Side Note: The crickets are surprisingly loud, even in the middle of the day. Via Kia of Bowie  Part 2: The Time Warp & The Hamster Car The thought proces...

Amplifying Voices: Bowie State University and the Human Rights Campaign Lead the Way for LGBTQIA+ Inclusion by: Mardline Prevot  Gizmo in 2025 For the past three years, a powerful movement for LGBTQIA+ inclusion has been building on the campus of Bowie State University (BSU), the oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Maryland. This effort, in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), is more than just a collaboration; it's a testament to BSU's legacy of leadership, culminating in the establishment of the first LGBTQIA+ resource center at an HBCU. The Power of Dreaming Out Loud The movement is deeply personal for many, including the student leaders driving this change. The journey often begins with a personal awakening—a realization of difference that blossoms into freedom. This is the essence of #DreamOutLoud. "It started with being a 13-year-old Haitian kid, realizing I was different," shares one of the event organizers. "It led to c...

Midnight Munchies, Midterms, and Design Humor.  By: Mardline Prevot        It was Tuesday, Midnight Munchies , the greatest feast a nonbinary person can never forget. The scent of late-night study snacks and relief hung in the air, a perfect backdrop to the post-midterm high. But before we get to the amazing food and even more amazing people, let's talk about the linguistic rabbit hole that started my week. Learning the tea works for me when Im not in the middle of other people's ego and false judgement on the horizon a republican state that should worried about how obsess they are with me in a way that may not make sense. So Imma say it through a show.

Kreyol La: Dance The Night Away By: Mardline Prevot Via: Mazopal Design  Saturday night, October 18th. In my dreams, my grandmother spoke to me, urging me to let go of the past and look forward. And so, I turned my eyes toward Citadelle Creole Cuisine for a night I wouldn't forget. The star of the evening? Kreyol La, the electrifying Haitian Konpa band hailing from Pétion-Ville, Haiti. That 65% quickly translated into "56% ways to vibe to Kompa more," a mantra to shift my focus from a grade to the groove. I was there to move, to connect with my favorite artists, and to lose myself in the unforgettable beat of the "Gouyad balle l." The music moved everyone. I watched Snoonz effortlessly transition from zouk to konpa moves, and I even ran into an old friend from my block in Lytonsville. It was a beautiful reminder of community. My uncle came through at an unfortunately serious time, wanting an update on the progress of my degree. In the middle of all that good ene...

Week 8: Midterms, Kreyòl La, and the Countdown to Kompa Concert Night by: Mardline Prevot 2006 Sportage via Kia Media  October 12-18, 2025 - Midterm Week  Samsung and Apple Edition with a mix of Baja Blast  Via Target It's time to release the torch of fakeness and step firmly into the reality of life. This week, that meant taking midterms for the absolute last time—a moment that, for some, felt like a uniquely demanding, "ghetto way of showing black excellence." But that intense push is about more than just a grade; it's revealing the very defense of a provoked dream, securing a future that's been hard-won. Yet, even in this serious academic period, a moment of odd nostalgia flashed through my mind: I was reminded of how the refreshingly recycled bottle of 1948 shared the hearts of millions of Americans back in 2004 with Taco Bell's original creation of the tropical lime flavor, a Baja Blast illustration of lime-out-with-Dew. As I move forward, though, my focu...

Week 7: The Countdown is Real!: Google Cloud Regional Leadership Symposium by: Mardline Prevot Via Professor TEWODROSS MELCHISHUA WILLIAMS. Happy Birthday This semester is flying by! It’s Week 7 already, and I’m hitting the home stretch for my undergraduate academic career—I graduate this December! The well wishes are already pouring in, and honestly, y'all are making me cry. Being at Bowie State University (BSU) truly changed my life, and I’m already feeling ready to take on the world. But before I head out, let me tell you about an incredible day I had this week. (Also, yes, I'm still smiling when I think of my crush, playing Luther Vandross's "So Amazing" in my head. Stay on track, though!) Monday, October 6th, 2025, was all about leadership. The Regional Leadership Symposium, sponsored by Google Cloud, took place in the MLK Auditorium from 8 AM to 7 PM. Right in the preface, we got an amazing prelude from the Mighty Sound of Maryland band from the University...

Every Time I See APA: My Brother's HBCU Greek Nine Echoes in Memory (Interm of  affiliation) No desire in using materials all respect organization "matter of family bond".  By: Mardline Prevot The morning started with a stark disappointment: no coffee left in the Dining Hall. A minor tragedy, to be sure, but one that instantly altered the trajectory of my day. Instead of the familiar, comforting bitterness, I found myself pouring a glass of Dole apple juice. The first sip was a jolt—not of caffeine, but of pure nostalgia. The sweet, crisp flavor was an instant, unexpected portal straight back to middle school. Suddenly, I wasn't an adult facing a full day; I was eleven years old, sitting at a cafeteria table, trading snacks and trying to navigate the complex social dynamics of pre-teen life. It's funny how a simple, everyday flavor can unlock such vivid, untouched memories. Seeing Beyond the Surface As I sat there, sipping my unexpected time machine, my thoughts ...

Cyber Torch: A tale of Crashout Internet by: Mardline Prevot Marry the problem. The final countdown is on! Soon, I'll be stepping into a new chapter, one that includes both my marriage and graduating from Bowie State University with a Bachelor's of Science as a first-generation college student. This post is a love letter to the freshman Mardi, who, once nervous about changing the world, is now actually doing it. It feels like a difficult time right now, graduating during a Republican administration—the last one was in 2017 when I was in middle school. Things aren't the same as they used to be, at least I thought so, but change is huge, and yet, I'm still Mardline then, and still Mardi now. Whenever I yearn for the past knowledge of being educated at The Bridges Academy, being here at Bowie State University only opens up those memories. It made me realize I’m not new to the education system at all; it’s only when I make it about DC. From my experience growing up in DC, n...

Age Restricted: Toddlers on the Court at the College Gym By: Mardline Prevot Patiently waiting for GTA 6.  The energy was building for the October 2nd basketball game. Players were setting up, focused on the routine and the coming win. It was then that a guest walked in, child in tow—a toddler, right in the thick of the pre-game hustle. My immediate thought was that a parent bringing a child onto the gymnasium floor right as the athletes are trying to focus and get into game-mode is a distraction, at best, and a potential hazard, at worst. But I held my tongue, reluctant to question a parent or disrupt the flow of event prep. I'm trying to graduate here, and the last thing I need is a workplace incident! My number one priority is ensuring a safe environment for physical education—no casualties in playing the sport! However, the sheer lack of a visible policy prompted me to ask my supervisor about the age-limit protocols. The response pointed me to the YMCA as a comparison model, a ...
