Hey everyone!

I'm excited to announce that I'm embarking on a new adventure: learning Adobe InDesign!  For those who aren't familiar, InDesign is a powerful software program used for creating professional layouts for magazines, brochures, posters, and more.

As someone who's always been interested in design (but maybe a little intimidated to jump in!), I figured it's time to take the plunge. Whether you're a fellow design newbie or a seasoned pro, I'd love to have you join me on this journey!

Why InDesign?

In a world saturated with digital content, creating visually appealing layouts is more important than ever·  InDesign seems like the perfect tool to up my design game. 

I'm eager to:

Craft beautiful and engaging layouts: From clean brochures to eye-catching flyers, I want to create designs that capture attention and leave a lasting impression.

Master typography: Fonts can make or break a design· I'm looking forward to learning the secrets of using typography effectively to enhance my projects.

Explore the creative world: InDesign opens the door to a world of creative possibilities. I can't wait to experiment with different layouts, graphics, and effects.

What to Expect?

This blog will be my personal chronicle of learning InDesign. I'll be sharing my experiences, from the initial setup and interface exploration to tackling specific design challenges. Expect a mix of:

Project Showcases: Once I start creating projects, I'll be excited to share them here! This will be a great way to track my progress and get feedback from the community.

The Struggles (and Triumphs!): Learning a new software program isn't always smooth sailing. I'll be honest about the challenges I face and how I overcome them· Hopefully, this will resonate with anyone who's ever felt overwhelmed by a new skill.

A New Home for Haitian Art in Bowie by: Mardline Prevot  Via Mazopal Design ( Haitian Community: The Vintage View) The words sting, even when they're not directed at me. In my courses, when Haiti comes up, it's a predictable script: poverty, political instability, a place to avoid. A casual dismissal of a country so rich in history and resilience. It's a narrative that paints my home as a lost cause, a cautionary tale. And for a long time, I just listened, the words sinking in. But then I realized something. They're not completely wrong. Haiti has faced incredible challenges. But that's not the whole story, and it's certainly not the only story. What's missing from their textbooks is the vibrant, powerful history that makes Haiti what it is today. They don't talk about the incredible strength and ingenuity of a country that, after 1804, became the first free Black republic. Bowie State University - McKeldin Gym Edition: The Graphic Designer for the I Am BSU Bless You by: Mardline Prevot  Courtesy: Bowie State University Okay, y'all, so boom! Let's talk about this flyer for the BSU intramural basketball league. First off, can we just acknowledge the graphic designer? Like, they understood the assignment. This ain't your grandma's boring event poster. This is a whole vibe, a whole mood, a whole experience. The yellow and black color scheme? Poppin'. The distressed texture? Immaculate. The sihouette of the player with the basketball? Iconic. And the HOOF DREAMS CALLING?  Pure genius. This flyer is loud, its bold, and its definitely gonna catch your eye when you're scrolling through your Insta feed.
