The Week of Royal Blue and Gold: Cap, Confessions, and Coronation

Monday, October 27, 2025 started with a tangible step toward the future: I officially purchased my cap and gown. The reality of graduation is setting in. Later that evening, the Bowie State Talent Show kicked off, starting with a lively Halloween-themed opener hosted by the BMI Organization (Image 1). The air was electric, but before the main event, I took a leap of faith. It was a moment of intense nervous confidence—a boldness I attribute to the color of my flag—that prompted me to confess my feelings to my crush. A significant personal moment before the campus spotlight truly hit.

The talent show began with a diverse lineup. We saw "Spin thin" and heard a peer sing a song that made the 'born in the 2000s' audience cheer. The first runners, my "dogs" Big Nick and Big Lechi, put on a great performance. The second runner, Thomas, captivated the crowd with a guitar solo, prompting students to light up the arena by waving their cellphones—just like at a major Chris Brown concert.

The Kush Models University delivered a combat-themed showcase, a standout moment of style and performance. Later, a real public relations challenge unfolded when the computer crashed during Kia Duarte's presentation—a true test of adaptability. The evening also featured an unreal 'Dr. teaser' about an instructor's contract with the 2027 LA Automotive Show, hinting at future corporate tariffs and the financial commitments Kia had to make.

The week’s energy peaked with the "Into the Stars" coronation ceremony on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. It was a beautiful, majestic event for the crowing of the 33rd Mister and the 79th Miss Bowie State University.

The excitement continued into the weekend. On Friday, October 30th, 2025, I woke up to the sound of Mariah the Scientist—in person, again! I was so swept up in the moment, I was "too lit" and apparently went missing for a good hour. Friday marked a major personal turning point: the start of a new beginning. I gave a subtle hint when I mentioned the "child of Baron meeting the queen of my Howard founding place."

I absolutely loved the Delta femme who reminded me of J’ouvert; she embodied an honorary tradition of folklore. I was also overjoyed to reunite with my sisters and "zoes" who traveled from the south to be here in the north.

Entering the Harvest November season, the spirit of homecoming was in full swing. Royal court representatives from HU, DSU, and MSU (District of Columbia) showed massive love to the newly crowned Mr. and Miss Bowie, the "First Black Republic State University." This "Blue and Red" convergence instantly transported me to the Republic of Haiti. The sweetness of reuniting with a friend—someone I realized is part of my ancestral lineage tracing back to the Louisiana Purchase and the influence of the Haitian Revolution—was a powerful confirmation that I am truly the Haitian dread head.

The energy continued with incredible performances from the Army Dancing Divas Sensations and the SOS GGS Royals Dancing Divas.

The chaos and charm of suburban Bowie were on full display when a flock of geese came flying in, landing in Centennial Park. If it hadn't been so cold, I would have set up a picnic there for the "jewel of my heart." The brothers understand that feeling—it's a unique Bowie moment.

My first time attending the BSU Homecoming Parade was a blast. On a ride back, listening to music from Billy to Paula Abdul, I met my brother's mother-in-law and was able to assist my soon-to-be sister with finishing her degree.

Go Terps!

The true stars of the entire Homecoming experience, for me, were the Turtles. I'm officially too hyped for week 12!
