Scoring a Win: How a Flyer Design Helped Launch a BSU Women's Flag Football Team 🏈

When I was tasked with designing a flyer for the BSU Women's Flag Football Interest Meeting, I saw it as a straightforward assignment for my graphic design internship. It was Week 5, and I was focused on honing my skills in creating visually appealing and effective promotional materials. My goal was simple: craft a design that would grab attention and clearly communicate the meeting's purpose and details. Little did I know that this small project would have such a significant and immediate impact, not just on the flag football team, but on my understanding of the power of design.
The results were beyond anything I expected. My supervisor provided me with the data on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, and I was floored. A total of 26 students showed up, a testament to the flyer's reach and effectiveness. The most surprising part? Two guys even attended, expressing interest in becoming team managers. This outcome demonstrates the flyer's ability to transcend its initial target audience and tap into a wider, more engaged student body. It's incredibly rewarding to see that my design work directly contributed to a turnout that is now helping to formulate a new BSU Sports Management program under Intramural and Recreation.
This experience has taught me that graphic design is more than just aesthetics; it's a powerful tool for communication and community building. The success of this flyer isn't just a win for my portfolio; it's a win for the entire BSU community. It shows how effective design can bring people together and spark new initiatives, like the nascent Sports Management program. As the graphic design intern, I'm proud to have played a part in this momentum, and I'm excited to continue using my skills to help build and strengthen our campus community.
